Ginette loves you
19 juillet 2008 – 12:10Frederique Dessemond pairs vintage jewels with gold-dipped chains at her new SoHo boutique.
For Frederique Dessemond, jewelry designer and owner of new SoHo boutique Ginette Jewelry Bar, it’s a case of something old, something new, something borrowed, and something… gold, usually. Combing flea markets all over the States and in her native Marseille, she buys irresistible bits and pieces constantly. But just like those polyester golf shorts you might have inherited from your mother’s ’60s wardrobe, often times Dessemond’s finds need a little sprucing up. So, she dips things such as Touareg hairpieces in green gold and strings them up on delicate chains. It’s also a case of something playful. “Most pieces tell a story,” says Dessemond. Her “You and Me” necklace has one stationary and one moving gold circle, “so if you are fighting with your boyfriend, you move them apart and then he knows.” Dessemond, who previously sold her baubles at Barneys and other high-end department stores across the country, at Ginette, one can find her signature monogrammed disc, new designs, and limited-edition vintage jewels as well.
